Michelle Murrell is an Australian alt-country artist from the NSW Central Coast. Michelle’s musical style is characterised by a unique and distinctive vocal sound, blending a country-folk twang with the influence of her 90’s upbringing.

Her musical expression is complemented by the rhythmic accompaniment of her husband James, who often joins her on percussion. Together, they create an immersive experience, drawing listeners into an experience that leaves a lasting impression.

Her distinctive vocal style and evocative songwriting have earned her growing recognition, with multiple singles receiving airplay on ABC Country, including features on the Grass Roots program and Saturday Night Country with Beccy Cole.

Michelle’s career highlights include performing with Bill Chambers at The Pub in Tamworth in both 2024 and 2025, as well as taking the stage at festivals including the Tamworth Country Music Festival and Gossy Weekender Festival. She also headlined the Gwandalan Christmas Carols in 2024, further solidifying her reputation as a compelling live performer.
Michelle and her husband James have been named Semi-Finalists in the Americana category of the 2024 International Songwriting Competition for their song Flannel Flowers. Additionally, they have also received recognition in the 2023-24 Australian Songwriting Contest, hosted by the Australian Songwriters Association, with four songs shortlisted across the Folk, Country, Ballad, and Rock categories.

With her debut album Flannel Flowers slated for release in May 2025, produced in collaboration with renowned country music figure Bill Chambers, Michelle continues to push genre boundaries with her authentic and heartfelt storytelling. Her music resonates with depth and sincerity, drawing listeners into a sound that lingers long after the final note.

Beyond her own music, Michelle is a passionate advocate for original artists on the NSW Central Coast. As the co-founder of the Central Coast Acoustic Songwriter Sessions, she has created a platform to celebrate local talent and nurture a thriving creative community.
