Michelle Murrell is an Australian alt-country artist from the NSW Central Coast. Her musical style is characterised by a unique and distinctive vocal sound, blending a country-folk twang with the influence of her 90s upbringing. Her musical expression is amplified by the dynamic percussion of her husband James, creating an unforgettable live experience that’s raw, rhythmic, and deeply resonant. Her distinctive vocals and songwriting have earned growing recognition, with multiple singles receiving airplay on ABC Country, including features on the Grass Roots program and Saturday Night Country with Beccy Cole. Michelle and James were named Semi-Finalists in the Americana category of the 2024 International Songwriting Competition for their song Flannel Flowers. They were also recognised in the 2023–24 Australian Songwriting Contest, with four songs shortlisted across the Folk, Country, Ballad, and Rock categories. Michelle’s debut album Flannel Flowers, produced in collaboration with renowned country music figure Bill Chambers, was released in May 2025. The album showcases her knack for heartfelt, genre-defying storytelling—music that lingers long after the final note. Offstage, Michelle is a passionate advocate for original artists on the NSW Central Coast. As co-founder of the Central Coast Acoustic Songwriter Sessions, she’s created a space that celebrates local talent and fosters a thriving creative community.
